Connecting with immigrants in Des Moines
We encourage individuals & families from Walnut Creek to meet-up with participating DMACC students outside of normal class hours for things like grocery runs, community events, dinner with friends, or family celebrations.
What is the Good Neighbor program?
Our Good Neighbor Program connects members of Walnut Creek Church to international students from DMACC for the purpose of friendship, support, and spiritual guidance. Before and after evening classes at Walnut Creek Downtown, DMACC ELL students have the opportunity to sign up for our Good Neighbor program. We will pair up participants with an individual or family from Walnut Creek. Folks from Walnut Creek who have signed up to be a Good Neighbor will then contact their new DMACC friend and think of fun ways to connect with them.
We see these Good Neighbor teams as a way to bless immigrants and a platform to share the wonderful hope that we have in Christ. You are encouraged to get together with your neighbor at least twice a month for six months.
How can I help with the Good Neighbor Program?
It takes a lot of administration, communication, and coordination to make our Welcome Ministries work. If you’re interested in helping with planning, marketing, or communications, please contact Matt Crummy at firstname.lastname@example.org and describe your interest and skills.
What classes does DMACC host at Walnut Creek?
DMACC hosts noncredit English Language Learner (ELL) courses, formerly called ESL or English as a Second Language (ESL), consisting of multi-level English instruction for anyone 18 years or older.
